SPOTLIGHT School Year 2008-2009 Welcome Back! We hope you all had a relaxing summer. The 2008-2009 school year promises to hold a lot of fun for ExCEL After School Programs across San Francisco. Here are some anticipated highlights: PEP is back! Physical Education and Nutrition Education are once again receiving funding through ExCEL. Keep an eye out for SPARK trainings and nutrition workshops. Three new high schools are joining ExCEL. Welcome to Ida B. Wells, Downtown, and Washington High Schools! Our Project Cohort learning communities are gaining momentum. This year the focus will be on Family Literacy, Balanced Programming, Science, Media Production, Service Learning (Chavez Clubs), and Nutrition and Recreation. Mark your calendars: Lights On Afterschool! will take place on October 16, 2008. Other upcoming special events include the Revolution in Art and Dance (RAD) on February 5, 2009; Read Across America Day on March 2; Global Youth Service Day on April 24, 2009; and ExCELebration in May 2009. ExCEL has two Demonstration Sites designated by the state as outstanding model after school programs. Congratulations to AP Giannini Middle School and Marshall Elementary School!
